surveys of the status of northeastern Chorus Frogs
Pseudacris triseriata

This page solicits summaries of surveys of regional or local populations of northeastern Chorus Frogs since the 2001 First Annual International Conference on Northeastern Pseudacris triseriata in Kemptville, Ontario.

The purpose of this page is to assemble information for testing the assertion of the Chorus Frog Declaration that "none of us know of a region in the lower Great Lakes or St Lawrence basin where Chorus Frog populations can safely be regarded as stable." Most of the participants were from Quebec, eastern Ontario, Vermont, and New York, and we know that "Whenever [we] meet with herp people from SW Ont and ask about Chorus Frog populations, everyone shrugs and says they seem pretty common..." I'm sure that collectively naturalists already know enough to test this hypothesis: this survey is intended to catalyse the assembly of that knowledge. What we're looking for is observers' carefully considered beliefs about the species' status in a local area: either as categorical changes or general stability or long-term changes in the frequency with which the species is heard at listening sites. If there's a site or region where you've listened for Chorus Frogs over a decade or more, please block the form below, paste it into an e-mail message, insert information and delete options to complete it, and send it to me <bckcdb@istar.ca> - fred schueler.
